2021 Canoe School: Lake Water Certification
04/20/2021 08:00 AM - 07/15/2021 08:00 AM @ Virtual Theory Delivery & On Water Certification ($200.00)
5 seats remaining
A mix of virtual and on-the-water learning, Canoe School 2021 is offering certification in Lake Water tandem or solo in intro and intermediate levels.
Students must attend one session of each of the clinics on offer. You do not have to pay and register for the individual clinics through our website, the cost is covered in your certification fee.
With consideration of the current public health environment, and the expectation that 2021 will be another banner year for backcountry travel and paddle adventures, we are offering a different Canoe School this season.
In a departure from our traditional methods 2021 Canoe School will be delivered in a hybrid of virtual and on-the-water learning. Participants can choose to commit to the full course to obtain a Lake Water certification following on-the-water training when possible, or to attend just our virtual clinics a-la-carte to learn about the specific topics you choose (without certification). Please note: if you register and pay for certification, you do not need to pay or register for the individual clinics.
Our first clinic will be held on Earth Day (April 20) and will focus on Leave No Trace principles. This clinic will be offered free of charge so that students can get a taste of what the rest of Canoe School has to offer. Clinics will run twice weekly (Tuesday and Thursday) with each clinic offered twice so that you can work them into your schedule.

CanoeSchool is taught by Paddle Canada certified instructors who volunteer their time. They do not receive any financial compensation.
All funds collected from CanoeSchool in 2021 will be used by Paddle Manitoba to support the development of the La Barrier Park paddling center. The paddling center is a joint initiative by the City of Winnipeg and Paddle Manitoba to create a safe and attractive venue for recreational paddling on the La Sale River just south of the city. Know that every dollar you pay for these courses will go towards supporting recreational paddling at La Barriere Park.
CanoeSchool is a collaboration between Paddle Manitoba and Manitoba Pioneer Camp to provide Paddle Canada canoeing skills courses and instructor training.
Remember, if you are interested in obtaining Paddle Canada certification in Lake Canoe, sign up for the full course. You must attend each of the online theory modules and then complete the open water skills sessions when Covid restrictions are relaxed, hopefully late summer or fall. We offer each module on two separate occasions for your convenience. You need only attend one of the offerings.
If you are not interested in the Paddle Canada certification but want to attend some or all the modules, you can sign up to audit the ones you want. You must register and pay a modest fee as specified. This is a great way to increase your knowledge of canoeing without having to commit to full course.
